About Sabi Sabi Selati Camp
Rich with Colonial history, much has changed since the days of the gold rush and the Selati railway line, the site of prowling lions and local people hiding high up in the indigenous trees to avoid them. The gold rush steam engines are no longer, and big game hunters are a distant memory, but the predators still roam and big game is prolific, enjoying their right to roam freely through Sabi Sabi. Selati Camp is named after the legendary female chief of the ancient Thubela tribe, whom once ruled the area, and still retains the ambiance of a bygone era and reverberates with the memories of days gone by. There is still the mystique of the lost “Kruger Millions”, which some believe to be buried along the railway tracks, running along the eastern section of Sabi Sabi, close to the Selati Camp. So you see, the area is filled with fascinating history, and these stories will be relayed to you by your ranger and the Shangaan staff who oversee the running of the lodge, since previous generations.
