About Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

The opulent lodge is located in one of the best locations – on the edge of the crater’s rim. From here, you can see the crater floor and if you’re lucky you’ll spot a few wild animals in the distance. Of course, the Big Five game viewing is the main reason that travellers visit Tanzania and the Ngorongoro Crater.

When you walk into the lodge, you really enter another world where you can be forgiven for being unsure what country or era you’re in. The lodge feels like a baroque chateau with chandeliers and brocade furniture but with one of the best game viewing experiences in Tanzania. There’s a curio shop and a bespoke wine store available too if you want to purchase some beautiful items from East Africa. For those who want some relaxation, in-house massages are on offer and are organised in the privacy of your own room.

The accommodation is divided into three intimate camps: two of 12 suites and one of 6 suites. Each suite, built on stilts with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs, has an en-suite bathroom and fireplace. Each camp has its own sitting and dining areas as well as private butlers who create a bespoke and warm experience for every guest. In the evening, you can relax with a glass of wine by the fire in the living room decorated with Persian rugs, chandeliers and brocade furniture. Afterwards, you’ll be served a gourmet dinner with crystal champagne glasses and silverware in the domed dining room with its large windows and wide views.
