The lodge is named after the Jackalberry trees that grow in the Thornybush reserve. This prime Big Five viewing area also boasts over 60 species of wildlife, and it’s a paradise for twitchers with a huge diversity of birdlife. With its understated luxury, Jackalberry Lodge is an intimate camp that’s perfect for honeymooners and anyone looking to escape the crowds and for travellers whose preference is a private camp.

Guests can choose from three suite types: standard, family and honeymoon. With luxurious elegance in mind, each of the 7 suites has large windows that face the undulating landscapes outside. The family suite has an extra bedroom with twin beds while the honeymoon lounge has a private lounge.

Guests can sit back and relax on the private patio and go to sleep at night with the softest linen. All suites have outdoor showers so that guests can really soak up the African atmosphere – and maybe even spot an animal or two while showering! Jackalberry lodge has a swimming pool, curio shop, library and large boma.

• Go on a dawn or dusk safari with experienced game ranger and tracker in the Thornybush Game Reserve and Kruger National Park
• Feast on a high tea and amazing bush dinners
• Guided veld walks bring you closer to nature (according to guest’s fitness levels) with a Shangaan tracker who explains plants’ medicinal uses
• Visit the nearby community project, Hlokomela
• Fly over the Lowveld and Blyde River on a hot air balloon
