Deep Sea fishing is a favorite activity off the coast of Cape Town. The Cape waters are well known for the fantastic deep sea tuna fishing excursions on offer. One of the world’s most difficult big fish to catch is the yellow fin tuna, weighing on average a whopping 50kg – 80kg. Deep sea fishing is an exhilarating sport and thrilling adventure, with the Cape waters rich in marine life. Apart from the prized yellow fin tuna, other fish frequently caught while deep sea fishing in Cape Town include the longfin tuna, skipjack, katonkel and dorado. The mako or blue shark are a great chase, but due to conservation efforts are caught on a strict catch and release basis only. Marlin and swordfish can be caught at certain times of the year, although not a common occurrence. Fishing is an ancient practice along this pristine coastline, original inhabitant by the San, native hunter gatherers who subsisted on the abundant harvest for thousands of years.
